Engaging in self-care is very important for both your physical and mental health. You can’t pour from an empty cup so taking care of yourself should be a priority.

Making time for it can be difficult, and so here are some ways to incorporate self-care into your routine:

Find yourself in water: take a bath, go swimming or for a dip in a hot tub.

Find yourself in nature: walk through the park, lay down in the grass and just be.

Disconnect: turn your phone on “do not disturb” mode. Turning your phone on “do not disturb” will allow you to not get distracted by notifications or phone-calls, allowing you to just “be.”

Stay in bed an extra half-hour than you usually would. Sometimes we feel the need to immediately get out of bed to start the day. Slowing down when you are able to can be really key for your mental health.

Have a solo dance party to your favourite music. Do you ever need to get out some energy? This can be the perfect way!

Say “no” to plans that don’t excite you. While you may feel a social obligation to attend plans, sometimes saying “no” can be a great way to take time to recharge.

Clean up that pile of clothes that sits in the corner of your room. We all have that pile, and we may feel shame or disgust when looking at it. Set a timer for ten minutes, and put your clothes away.

Read for 10 extra minutes than what is typical. This is another way to slow down and take time for yourself.

Journal how you are feeling. You can use words, or art to express yourself.

Explore your town/city like a tourist by going to a place you’ve never been to.

Remember that self-care isn’t being selfish. What are some other ways you engage in self-care?
