Tips to Enjoy a Staycation

Winter can feel long and dark, depending on where you live, which can make you want to go away on a vacation. However, going away can be expensive. Sometimes, a staycation is what we need to refill our buckets while protecting our wallets. This article focuses on staycation tips so you can feel like you went on a vacation without leaving your city.

For those who know me personally, they know that every December, for the past few years, I’ve opted out of returning to my hometown. Instead, I have a staycation. I would even say, that perhaps I’m a professional staycationer.  Here are a few tips that I’ve personally tried and think that you should too:

Start Your Staycation With a Deep Clean

Whether it is Marie Kondo inspired or Pinterest inspired, I find that a deep clean at the beginning of a staycation can help clear space and energy in your home. This will allow you to feel less guilty when you choose to spend some (or all- your choice) time on the couch.

Become a Tourist In Your Own Town

How cool is it that you have time off that’s longer than two days? Take advantage of it, by exploring various tourist attractions on less-busy days. Sometimes, attractions may even have discounted prices depending on the day or if you are a local.

Go to a Daytime Movement Class

One of my favourite things to do on a staycation is checking out the yoga classes that I never get to go to because of my schedule. Maybe you discover a new teacher that you feel drawn too, or you get to experience the quieter classes? The world is your oyster.

Stay Home

While doing “nothing” isn’t for everyone, I definitely recommend trying it out. If this is something that seems intimidating, I challenge you to build up your tolerance to it, maybe taking a half-day to do nothing at first. Nothing can look like whatever you want it to look like, and for me it’s the following: reading, listening to an audiobook, streaming a light-hearted show.
