With holiday parties, family pressure and days like “Black Friday” and “Boxing Day” creeping up not so slowly, it can be hard to avoid the advertisements, emails, flyers and targeted posts. Often, we are drawn to the societal pressures of gift-giving and receiving. Here at IAR, we have a different type of gift guide here for you.
Why don’t you try giving one of the following gifts this holiday season?
- Smile. Sometimes all someone needs is a smile to turn their day around. Whether it be smiling to yourself, or someone else, try it out. Of course, only if it is on your accord. ????
- Hug. While not everyone likes nor appreciates physical touch, there is part of the population who does. With enthusiastic consent, find a loved one who needs a hug and give it to them.
- Host a Donation Party. Depending on where you are, there are likely organizations that are in need of extra donations during the holiday period. Check out your local organizations for lists of what is needed. Typically, socks and jackets are highly needed and under-donated.
- Pay It Forward. It is the little things that can make someone’s day. If you are in the financial means to do so, why not pay for the coffee of the person behind you? Sometimes this can lead to paying it forward chains that can go on for dozens of people.
- Compliments/Appreciation Sharing. Regarding compliments, we don’t just mean physical appearance compliments. Try complimenting a colleague or a stranger on something you appreciated about them. Appreciation can go a long way.
- Jokes. Whether it is a “dad joke” or not, a joke can be another way to make someone’s day. Also, this is perfectly tied into our first gift idea. ????
- A funny video. We personally love cat videos, but any video that can make one giggle is considered a gift, and a thoughtful way to say “I’ve been thinking of you.”
