How to Beat the Winter Blues

Depending where you are in the world, winter can be a hard season. The shorter days, greyer skies and cooler weather can all be difficult to cope with. Once January hits, the reality from holiday season may set in with credit card bills arriving and the holiday cheer dissipating. Sky Travel actually claimed that the third Monday in January is the most depressing, calling it “Blue Monday.” If you are feeling like you are struggling, it might be a good idea to reach out for support from your loved ones or reach out to a professional mental health provider.

This week, we are sharing different ways to beat the winter blues. Earlier, we shared ways to support you with the time change, and so we invite you to read that blog for additional ideas

Engage in Winter Activities

Depending on where you live, you may be surrounded by snow or close by to snow. If you are bundled up properly, engaging in winter activities such as skating, snowshoeing or skiing can be a fun way to embrace the season.

Go for a snowy adventure.

Go to a Hot Yoga Class

While I’m not the biggest fan of hot yoga classes, I find them to be like a warm blanket in the winter. Attending a hot yoga class can be a great way to build up heat, get some movement in and bring a summer vibe to your winter.

Spend time at hot yoga.

Spend Time at a Hydrotherapy Spa

A favourite treat, hydrotherapy spas can be a rejuvenating way to spend a winter’s day. Some cities have indoor ones, such as Body Blitz in Toronto and others have outdoor ones, like the Scandinave Spa chain and the Nordik spa chain that both have locations across Canada.

Become a Tourist in Your Own City

Reclaiming winter can also look like exploring the city you live in, checking out the local museums, art galleries and theatre can be a creative way to beat the cold. Some attractions have partnerships with the local libraries so that you can access these services for free.

Explore your city.

Embrace Hibernation

Opposite to being a tourist, it is okay to spend time on your couch, cozied up to a good TV show, movie or book. Blair, our Founder, loves to hibernate in the winter.

Hibernation is fun in the winter.
