Accessing mental health information that is accurate and researched is important to ensure that you have sound information. This post highlights a few websites we recommend when researching mental health information and seeking support. Some of these websites are regionally or nationally specific and most of them are internationally known.

Please note this is not a substitute for mental health advice or support and if you are in an emergency, go to your nearest emergency room or call 911.

Mental health support

Centre for Addiction and Mental Health – CAMH

While based in Toronto, CAMH is a nationally known centre that not only supports folks with mental health and addiction concerns but also is at the forefront of research and information. We recommend visiting the “Health Info” tab for facts, publications and more resources.

Canadian Mental Health Association – CMHA

Not to be mistaken for CAMH, CMHA is a national association with programs across the country. A bonus about CMHA is that they have a strategy for addressing mental health in the workplace. We recommend the “Policy” tab to find out more about what CMHA is doing regarding mental health policy across Canada.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network – NCTSN

Based out of the United States, the NCTSN is a great resource for information regarding traumatic stress in children in various environments and systems. While this is not a substitute for therapy, this website can help you understand more about the effects of traumatic events in childhood.

These are just three of many reputable websites to get accurate and up-to-date information on mental health and best practices. In addition, there are many accounts on social media that share information and we want you to be aware of the source of information.

If you know of other sites that we are missing, please comment below.
